COVID-19 Information for University Student Counseling Services

We have been contacted by a number of university student counselling services regarding their ability to offer services into New Brunswick to students enrolled at their universities who, due to the pandemic, are remaining in New Brunswick.  They noted that our current position is with respect to ‘existing clients’ and their situation would be that of potentially ‘new clients’.  They noted that these students would have the benefit of their services if they were on campus and wished to be able to offer this to those having to attend virtually.  Council agrees to expand our current position as we don’t feel it is in the public interest to make it impossible for students to receive services otherwise available to them.  As well, we contemplated that a return to in-person attendance could happen in the winter term, at which point the student could continue, in person, with the practitioner with whom they have established the relationship. This position shall continue ‘during the pandemic’ and the Registrar will revisit this at least every three months to determine if the special circumstances still exist.
