Telepsychology

In relation to telepsychology, CPNB would like to share the motions recently made by Council.

1.      CPNB will, as of February 11, 2022, assert sole authority to regulate the conduct of psychological practice and/or services conducted within the boundaries of New Brunswick by psychologists registered with CPNB, regardless of the physical location of the recipient of those services.

2.      In the context of telepsychology, CPNB interprets “practice or service” as occurring in the jurisdiction where the psychologist is registered.

3.      Psychologists registered and licensed to practice by a regulatory authority elsewhere in Canada may deliver telepsychology services to clients in New Brunswick without having to obtain registration with CPNB.

Further information about these three motions, and regarding complaints, should be reviewed in the attached document and FAQ.  According to current requirements across the country, CPNB registrants may only provide telepsychology services (a) to clients located in New-Brunswick, Quebec and Nova-Scotia, without obtaining permission from the regulatory bodies in those provinces, and (b) to clients located in PEI and Newfoundland, by informing the regulatory bodies in those provinces. Requirements may change from time to time, and it is recommended that you first contact the regulatory authority of the jurisdiction to determine what applicable requirements may be in place.

Kind regards,

College of Psychologists of New Brunswick
